New Year and New Hopes

I don’t know what it is about a new year that makes us all so optimistic. It is just another year, like the many others that have gone by, leaving behind dreams, aspirations and resolutions that never really took off. And yet every year is vividly different from the one before and the one after it. I believe it is what we make it. For in the present moment we are planting seeds for our future.

With so many people taking time to celebrate and ring in the new year, the energy and excitement is palpable even if you are home and celebrating in front of the television. Many of us can simply ride the wave of excitement coursing through the world. Here in Cary it was a rainy day – ALL DAY! That would have been enough to dampen my spirits but I was on a high for no apparent reason.

And so it continues. Even after the kids left for school yesterday, there was this mounting excitement. Again I had no clue what was causing it. It wasn’t some outside event or circumstance. Sometimes when something bad is about to happen our soul senses it and we feel uneasy. I guess the same is true when something good is about to happen.

In contrast, December had a very different energy to it. The end of an unsatisfying year and all the trials it brought with it. One day I was just done with it. I’d had enough and wished that if 2017 was going to be the same old, same old, then I didn’t want to go on.

The next day I woke up with this song in my head – Don’t Let Go, You Got The Music In You. And it kept playing in my head all day. On the way to my kids’ eye appointments I switched radio channels and this song started playing. I was blown away. The lyrics if you haven’t heard it goes like this – Don’t give up, you have a reason to live. When the night is falling and you cannot find the light, If you feel your dream is dying, Hold tight. You got the music in you.

It kind of set the trend for 2017 for me. And somehow the way you feel on the 1st of the year sets the energy for the rest of the year. I felt carefree, light and happy and hope to cruise through the year.

I spent the last few months of the year in sober solitude and I vowed to make more friends in 2017. Let’s see how that reSOULution goes. Made a tiny step in that direction by enrolling ourselves in a spiritual group that meets every week. Things take time and perseverance. My motto is to not give up too soon, before the results show up.

Wishing all my readers a very happy 2017 filled with all good things, world peace and abundance in every corner of the world. Do share your resolutions when you comment and let’s all support each other.

The Rise of the Sensitives

I have known that I’m different for a long time. When the whole world is going east I would be looking west. I gave up meat when I was in 12th grade and also became a Reiki Level II practitioner. I dabbled in yoga and spent Saturday mornings at a home for the mentally challenged. Yes I was different. I felt everything more intensely than everyone else. I just thought I was sensitive and being sensitive of course is considered a bad thing. It is associated with weakness and the inability to cope. Sensitive people would rather be at peace than be right. So often times we keep quiet to keep the peace. It doesn’t mean that we are in agreement with you – it just means that we don’t want to soak up the toxic energy created by an argument. I had to learn to be assertive even though it meant ruffling a few feathers.

Earlier I had to deal with just my emotions but these days I find that I’m picking up on everyone’s vibes and it is very unsettling. For no apparent reason my mood fluctuates. Then I look around me and I see people acting out, depressed, lonely, sad and hopeless. Some who can’t take it any more are ending their lives. There has been a rise in our level of sensitivity as a race. We are no longer living utterly selfish lives filled with apathy. Don’t read the prophecies of doom and gloom that the media is publicizing. Read stories of real people reaching out and helping – fellow humans, animals, trees and other distressed souls. Being tough and street smart aint getting anyone anywhere. Natural disasters, death and disease – humble levelers of us all – have taught us that we need each other and we can’t live in isolation, oblivious to the suffering of others. One day we might be in their shoes and all the money and intellect in the world couldn’t help us. Only another human can. Another sensitive human.

So I wear my sensitivity proudly as if it were a prized possession. Yes it is hard to manage all the emotions swirling around me and sometimes I feel overwhelmed and helplessly at the mercy of my feelings. But over the years I have learned to manage them and divert them for a better cause.

If you are sensitive you understand what another person is going through. You feel their emotions like they are your own. People feel soothed in your presence because you can empathize with them without any exchange of words. You are probably the person who takes all their distress calls.

Being sensitive is a blessing but could be a curse if you don’t know how to manage it. Of course you can manage it! Didn’t you know? You should know when to cut back and retreat so you don’t take on too much of other people’s energies. In Reiki they teach you this. Protect your aura before you start healing another and it applies to all of us even if we are not healers. Certain people can drain you of your energy and you need to identify these energy vampires and stay away from them. Some will be naturally drawn to you but you need to say no because no one benefits when you give at your own expense.

So how do we protect ourselves from being dragged down by the toxic energy around us? One way is obvious – pray and ask for protection. Another way is to stay away from news, media and not so loving people. Spiritual practices like meditation, yoga, tai chi and qi gong help center us and keep our emotions in balance. Lastly, get away, go on a vacation or simply retreat and rest. Affirm to yourself daily that you will at no cost be pulled into the drama because your nature is peace! Even when people spew out their negativity at you, stay centered and mentally negate the energy so it has no power over you. If it happens too often then try and get away from this person.

Being consciously sensitive is empowering and is in no way a sign of weakness. It is in fact the way to lead this world into a day when loving kindness and peace will prevail. Because loving kindness starts with you.

You have the Universe and All its Treasures at Your Feet

We all grew up with a lack mentality. The illusion of not having enough. Even if you were well-off you had to face a world of inequality and injustice at every level. Poverty, illness, death and disease was the fate of the unfortunate or so you believed. Like the Gods didn’t favor them for some reason.

Of late I’ve come to believe that all the inequalities we see, all the injustices and blatant violation of human rights are all created by man. Grace, abundance, love and joy are freely available. It’s like the sun which shines on all, no matter if you’re rich or poor, saint or sinner, fat or skinny, healthy or diseased. God’s grace is shining on every soul at every moment. Then why is there suffering you ask? Because you have this thing called the mind that can play devil’s advocate from time to time. You filter the world through your mind, based on your past experiences.  After all, you don’t absorb much of the sun’s radiation if you sit indoors with the windows shuttered and the drapes drawn. If your mind shuts out the grace and healing that is available to you every moment, then who is to blame?

The mind is a tricky entity to deal with. I’m still irked by how it sneaks unwanted thoughts and beliefs into my psyche. One night I was up watching TV all by myself. A beautiful actress with long hair and perfect skin appeared and I mentally sighed. I’ve had issues with my stomach, skin and hair for sometime now. I’ve tried creams, shampoos and diets but nothing worked for me. This Hollywood beauty had top dermatologists and hair stylists at her beck and call. Poor me, what could I do? I’ll just have to suck it up and make peace with my not-so-perfect health!

I’ve had this limiting thought so many times but this time I realized how it was preventing me from finding solutions to my problems. I felt I needed to be someone else, somewhere else in order to be healed! It’s all there for me and everyone else who wants it. I was just pushing it away with my mind and its irrational thoughts. This reminded me of the clip-on mosquito repellent ad. It was like I had a giant bubble around me preventing me from soaking up all the healing, love and abundance I needed.

As a Reiki healer I have felt these bubbles or blocks energetically. Reiki is a healing technique that involves laying your hands on a person and requesting Reiki energy to flow through you from the cosmos to the person to facilitate healing. People who have a mental block or don’t trust that they can be healed don’t allow the energy to pass through them and in effect prevent their own good or healing from happening. Remember I said cosmos – the air around us is full of prana, chi or life force. You can tap into it right now even without being attuned to Reiki. Breathe it in and allow it to heal you. Stop the constant chatter of your mind and allow your highest good to unfold now. Yes now! You can be whole, perfect and abundant in an instant.

How else can you explain classic rags to riches stories? Homeless people winning lotteries and becoming millionaires. Orphans growing up to be great spiritual masters. Miraculous healing beyond all odds. They all tuned into the love and abundance of the universe and tuned out the illusions created by the mind. The Tao teaches us to become one with the universe in order to be whole and complete. To be one with the universe is to be one with love, compassion and abundance. Then you want for nothing and everything is freely available to you. The universe gives freely of its abundant, inexhaustible resources. When you give with the same spirit then all the abundance you can imagine will lay at your feet.

In order to be healed you must give up thoughts of being imperfect or broken beyond fixing. Of course you will need to make changes to your diet or lifestyle as guided. But your success largely depends on your beliefs about whether you can be healed or not. For years I felt healing was something that came from the outside. I could help others feel better but when it came to healing myself I had little success. A bad case of throat infection that refused to go away with antibiotics got me anxious. I was to travel to India in less than a week and I had no energy to pack. I wanted the healing and I wanted it bad! So I lay down and placed my hands on my throat. The old doubts about self-healing surfaced and tormented my mind but a wave of trust placated it. In a few days I was out of it and felt much better. I went on to have a fabulous vacation in India.

Louise Hay says in her book, “You Can Heal Your Life”, abundance is like the ocean. Some come to fill up tiny cups and others come with tankers.

So what will it be for you? A tiny cup or a tanker. Do you want to be out soaking up the grace or in a room with the doors and windows locked and shuttered? It’s all up to you, for the wealth of the universe lies at your feet!

Global Consciousness is For Real!

I wrote about collective consciousness a year ago, right after a basketball game (See http://punctuatelife.com/2012/06/07/collective-consciousness/). I could sense how the fans’ energy was making the players score and almost tie the game. When PBS aired a show this week about measuring coherance or in other words the collective energy emanating from the Boston Red Sox fans at Fenway Park, it blew my mind. For all you people out there who don’t believe in such a thing as thought energy this is all the proof you need. Scientific proof. A small group of people have been measuring global consciousness by using random number generators all over the world and have been analysing and recording the results.

It is not my intention to go into the details of this global consciousness project. You can learn more on the Internet. But it is my intention to show you that the time has come for you to actually regard every thought as an energetic entity that is powerful enough to change the outcome of any situation in your life. Or powerful enough to create any desired outcome in your life. It may not be easy for many of us to do this but with patience and practice you can work your own miracles as I have.

If you work better with a team then know this – many people sending out the same thought frequency have greater power to control the outcome. That is the reason prayer groups really work miracles. Every time my grandma went to the hospital with a serious malady I used to send a prayer request to the Reiki Center and every time she came out of the hospital perfectly fine. I still send prayer requests on behalf of my friends and I’ve seen it work time and again. Praying together as a family or simply sitting together and stating your intentions with a good intention is also very powerful. Trying to get my 8-year-old and 10-year-old to sit still is quite challenging but we are getting there!

The technique can be applied at work and even sports teams greatly increase their chances of winning when every player is resonating at a winning frequency. Here is the funny thing, if enough of them are on a winning frequency the rest of the team automatically picks up that frequency! It’s like that physics experiment with the tuning forks or pendulums. After a few rounds all the forks are vibrating at the same frequency or all the pendulums are in sync.

There is also such a thing as power places. Places that soak up all the energy of several centuries of prayer, rituals and healing vibes so much so that just going there can work miracles for you. We feel it in a small way whenever we enter a place of worship. We feel intense peace and come back with a good feeling that lingers for a long time. Imagine an energy 10,000 times stronger – now that can really change your life!

Energy is a palpable force that is changing our physiology every minute without us even knowing it. It is changing our reality and what we create in our lives. Today, I see a world where people are not happy with what they have created and are coming together to pool their energy to create a better world. Better energy, better world. It’s that simple.

Remember, it all starts as a tiny thought inside you head which then creates thoughts in the same frequency as that first thought. Before you know it your thoughts are crowding your brain, changing your physiology and your emotions and creating every second of your day. So what will you think today? Make it a happy thought!

Collective Consciousness

I was at a basketball game in February this year. Orlando Magic vs Atlanta Hawks. To get to the part I want to talk about I have to cut to the fourth quarter of the game (sorry guys!) Magic was trailing by two points. The Amway Center was full of Magic fans and they really wanted them to win. I was one of them. We rose in unison, chanting at a feverish pitch, the energy filling the stadium, pushing the players and the ball to do their bidding. A two-pointer! The crowd went wild. The clock was ticking. Just seconds to go before the end of the fourth quarter. Atlanta scores. The crowd roared and we continued to chant in unison – one voice, one soul, one vision! Magic scored again and the timer beeped indicating the end of the fourth quarter. I’m standing, my hands raised, screaming ecstatically. Even my usually reticent husband is screaming, thumping my kids and giving high fives. What just happened? Ever been to a concert or game? Then you would know that the fans exude so much energy that the air is electric and charged. So much so that spontaneous combustion is possible! To me the collective energy was palpable.  Almost like a force driving the players to tie the game. If the game had resumed immediately, the energy that hung around the room would have propelled Magic to win. But as the seconds slipped by and the game went into 5 minutes of overtime, I could sense the energy dissipating, people disengaging from the whole, the collective if you will.

The game resumed but the energy had shifted, the audience had lost it’s one-pointed focus and I could taste the disappointment, feel it in the air. Atlanta scored. Orlando missed twice and the timer went off. Magic lost and I knew they would even before it happened.

The mind when applied properly is a very powerful device. So several minds working together on a common goal are unstoppable. If only the people in the basketball stadium knew that. Enough of them. Just to tip the scales to obtain a win for Magic. Imagine what we can do right here, right now. Why work alone when you can improve your chances of success by working together. Many of us want the same things – a job, a partner, inner peace, money – may be not in that exact same order. But if a buddy can help you stick to an exercise routine, he/she sure can partner with you to get something you both want. So why not make the journey together, why not help each other along the way. Why go alone, get disappointed and give up just when the goal is within your reach. There is so much we can change just by working together. In our lives, in the lives of several people we haven’t even met and even life here on earth. So get cracking and get involved. No more standing in the bylines. Come on out to the forefront and focus your collective energy for the highest good of all. Find something worthy of your attention.

How will you (and your buddies) apply the power of collective consciousness today? Please share below…
